“Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible Day of the Lord.” (Malachi 4:5)
“And He answered them and said, “Elijah is coming and will restore all things; but I say to you Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wished…” (Matthew 17:11-12)
Beloved, there are many parallels found in the events that led up to and surrounded the coming of the Son of God at the fulfillment of Passover and the events that shall lead up to another “coming” or manifestation of Christ in our day. One of these things is the coming of the spirit of Elijah TO MAKE READY a people prepared for the Lord.
Before Jesus came on the scene 2000 years ago, John the Baptist had come in the spirit and power of Elijah as Christ’s forerunner, prophesying and preaching to the people of their need to repent (change their minds) so that they might be prepared for the Lord’s coming. John was the son of a priest and could have found a career in the old religious order, yet he was called by God to minister OUTSIDE the walls of the established system of organized religion, and thereby he was also outside of the jurisdiction and fellowship of the blind religious leaders of his day. Some of the common people listened to John and received what he had to say to them, but the Scribes and the Pharisees came only to mock and ridicule him as a strange (so-called) “new order” fanatic.
Dear friends, this same scenario is being played out once again in our day as the Lord prepares His people for His coming at Tabernacles. God has a prophetic ministry in the land crying out for the church to prepare for the next stage of the Kingdom, but the leaders of the religious systems and institutions of men have caused many of their followers to fear this prophetic ministry. But some of God’s people (just a remnant) are listening to their spirit which now bears witness with the modern day “Voice in the Wilderness,” and these are coming out of the harlot systems of religion now and coming into an acceptance of the truth in preparation for the manifestation of the (corporate) Son at Tabernacles.
Beloved, Jesus made it clear that it is the spirit of Elijah that will bring restoration to God’s children as a preparation for the coming age, and this by rebuilding in the hearts of men the true altar of evening sacrifice. It is in this way that TRUE apostolic and prophetic leadership can be RAISED UP which will ultimately destroy that which has kept God’s children in bondage to religion and false doctrine, specifically, the so called “leadership” that is in agreement with a religious spirit which opposes the genuine prophetic word of the Lord today. In Old Testament type, this can all be seen in Elijah’s confrontation with Ahab, Jezebel, and the false prophets of Baal, and also in his anointing of Jehu (son of Nimshi) as king over Israel and of Elisha (son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah) as the new head of the prophets.
The spirit of Elijah is sent (to us) because this spirit (embodied) has an exemplary prophetic character which is wholly separated unto God and therefore has a confident knowledge of His ways. Jezebel (a satanic principality also at work IN THE CHURCH) is tremendously threatened by this, and therefore those in union with that spirit will (even unwittingly) do almost anything to cut people off from this highly restorative prophetic influence. If you desire further explanation about all of this, you may want to read “Exposing Jezebel” and “The Elijah/Jezebel Tension.”
