This is something that was written several years ago, but is something that is quite fitting to share now, especially in the light of what has recently been shared about the Lord’s “presence” or “parousia.” It’s by this “presence” that He intends to change the world, beloved. This article scripturally and prophetically spells out pretty well what this world-changing plan is all about. If you read this article, be sure to read “A Pattern for True Worship,” as that article is a much more recent expression of what I’m getting (by the Spirit) about David’s Tabernacle. — D
It seems like a good time for me to share with you a little more about David’s Tabernacle. Let’s begin with this by simply saying here that God is revealing a model for His church which is much different from anything that we have experienced under Pentecost. This is a Tabernacles model. Let’s take a look at a passage of scripture about this…
“Simeon hath declared how God at first did visit the gentiles (nations), to take out of them a people for His name (the church age). And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, ‘After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David which is fallen down; and I will build the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: that the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the gentiles (nations) upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord who doeth all these things.’ ” (Acts 15:14-17)
Now, beloved, this passage of scripture reveals a church in a “fallen” state, and also a far more glorious one that is to be “raised up” from out of the former one. These represent for us the church of the “in part” anointing and “mixture” of Pentecost, and the first stages of a Tabernacles church, one in which the POWER and the PRESENCE and the LOVE of God will be seen and experienced in ways not known to men under Pentecost.
This Tabernacles church is described above as “the Tabernacle of David,” and this can represent a people who will come into a fullness of the Spirit probably not known by anyone before this but the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and this while still in flesh and blood bodies (earthen tents). Let me explain …
The glory, power, and presence of God was seen in the Lord Jesus Christ during His 3 ½ year earthly ministry of 2000 years ago, and that was certainly a manifestation of David’s Tabernacle (the “Ark” or “the glory of God” revealed in an earthen tent). But, that “earthen tent” (His flesh body) was laid down as a sacrifice for our sin, and this so that ALL men can come to the Father and experience His indwelling Spirit. Up until now though, God’s Spirit has been given to men (in many earthen tents) only “in measure.” This is God’s way and plan for Pentecost, and though there has been some good things that have come from this church, men in it have only been able to manifest the glory of the Son of God “in part.” This (when it is compared to the glory of the Son of God Himself) is described as a “fallen” state, but GOD has a plan for a full and complete restoration!
Dear friends, the words of the prophets agree that there is a company of believers who are slated to come into something very awesome at the end of this Pentecostal age, and this so that they can MANIFEST THE REALITY OF THE GLORY OF CHRIST in a people, and this to an unbelieving church and world. This will be the raising again of the Tabernacle of David, and is what God plans to use in the gathering of all nations (“the remnant of Edom” and “the residue of men”) to Himself in the coming age.
Beloved, in Acts 15:14-17 there is shown to us the sequence in which God plans to carry out this program of reconciliation and redemption from Pentecost to Tabernacles. Here is the sequence as it is shown to us there…
First, God visits the nations and takes out of them a people for his Name. This has been the purpose for THE CHURCH AGE, which is, for God to draw unto Himself a remnant, a company of people, election by grace, to become the expression of His Name (His nature and character) in the earth.
At the end of this age though, all who take the name of Christ to themselves do not surrender to Him to the extent that they can become MATURE in Him, so… GOD THEN TAKES OUT FROM AMONG THESE those who can be raised as a “Tabernacle of David” people. IT IS THROUGH THESE then that He will move in power upon “the residue of men” (the church in general, and the rest of the world) and will cause them to seek the Lord that “all the nations shall be blessed.” As far as I understand it, this IS the ministry of the coming age, and is that which shall not conclude until the kingdoms of this world become the Kingdom of our God and of His Christ.
Beloved friends, let’s look at this in this way; it is in ZION, not Jerusalem, where this Tabernacle (that I speak of) shall be erected. Jerusalem is a type of the church and of things of the Spirit, but ZION IS THE HIGHEST PLACE within Jerusalem. This, beloved, speaks of a remnant that shall fully lay down their lives in their service to God and others, and it is in this way that these come up to the highest attainable place in God! Let me try to clarify this a little further (and this with O.T. figure)…
At the time when king David set up his Tabernacle, many people still worshipped in Moses’ Tabernacle at Gibeon (1 Chronicles 21:29), but there was no Ark there. Sure, there was lots and lots of activity and ministry work going on there, but God did not dwell there in power any longer. No. The power and the presence and glory of God at that time (represented by the Ark of the Covenant) was moved to Zion, to the Tabernacle of David.
David had essentially transferred the Holy of Holies to Mount Zion, another hill, and this to us represents a higher place in God than what we have experienced. Keep in mind here that most people in David’s day did not move on with him to become part of the awesome worship that was going on in Zion, even so, most Christians today are also not willing to move on from what they have known that they might come into MORE of God.
Along these lines, there are many promises in scripture to those who “overcome,” and many of these have to do with the overcoming of mindsets, ways, traditions and fears that can keep us from moving on with God. It is sad, but many people at this particular time in His-story are not willing to move on with God into what He is doing now and this because they have not an “ear to hear what the Spirit is saying” to them in this day. In this way, these like the Pharisees of old have made the Word of God ineffectual to themselves, and this because of the erroneous traditions that they hold onto so dearly and teach. Believe it or not, beloved, people like this can get stuck in an old faded Pentecost even as the religious Jews of today have gotten stuck in the now totally glory-less and powerless Passover part of the program.
Aside from all of that, isn’t it comforting to know that God is NOW bringing forth a remnant today made up of people who are willing to sacrifice their lives to the extent that God can have vessels into whom He can pour Himself in fullness? This is God’s chosen means for deliverance of the creation in the days ahead. Obadiah described these people as “deliverers sent from Zion.” The prophet Amos (and a disciple named James) described these people as a “restored Tabernacle of David.” Whatever you want to call it, this is definitely a description of SONS brought into the glory of God in a way that this glory has never been seen in and on the Lord’s church.
Oh, and one last thing. I had better mention this….
If you read the story about king David bringing the Ark to the tent in Zion (representing the glory and the power and the presence of God being brought to the Lord’s church), you’ll see that this did not happen until there was a reverent AWE and RESPECT for God and His ways put into God’s people first. This can be seen in the account of Uzzah touching the Ark (and of him dying for that act), and in how this then led to a rather DRASTIC change in Israelite hearts.
