Discerning Good And Evil

A recent e-mail warning me to beware of “dualistic thinking” (because I mentioned something in a letter about evil thoughts) has prompted me to share this…

You may want to consider this, XXXX, – Hebrews 5:14 says…

“But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.”

This sure seems to indicate that we’re not to be IGNORANT of evil, but rather trained to DISCERN between good and evil and yet not make DECISIONS based on our knowledge of what is good or evil. Get it? The two trees in the garden represent two sources of LIFE and each and every one of us derive our living from one of these sources. The Tree of Life represents GOD as our life, a life in TOTAL DEPENDENCE upon the Spirit of God for everything that we do. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil represents a life that is lived independently of God based upon THE KNOWLEDGE of what is good and what is evil. The fruit from the Tree of Life produces THE LIFE OF GOD in humanity and has dominion over the works of the flesh. The fruit from the other tree produces THE CARNAL MAN, one who may seem to be very good and very religious (by way of him living according to his knowledge of what is good or evil) but one who is ALIENATED AND SEPARATED in his mind from the Life of God and thereby is not able TO DISCERN between good and evil by the Spirit in the moments.
